- Blackthorn is a thorny shrub that grows wild in Western Europe, Asia, and the Far East. Its fruits are similar to prunes.
Sloe jam contains large amounts of vitamin E (tocopherol) and C (ascorbic acid), as well as carotene. It also contains sugars, tannins, malic acid, steroids, fatty oils, and alcohols.
